What Is Brick Slip Tile Adhesive?
Brick slip tile adhesive is a specially formulated adhesive for securing brick slips or brick veneers. It’s a type of masonry adhesive to help DIYers and professionals create a wall effect by glueing brick slips to a wall or floor.
Brick slip adhesive, such as Larsen Fusion XT and Ultra Scape, is a dry mixture that can be stored and reused. They are easy-to-use adhesives that simply require the addition of water to create a strong, durable adhesive.

Where Can You Use Brick Slip Tile Adhesive?
Brick slips are a popular choice in transforming interior and exterior spaces. They are a quick, cost-effective option to add depth, texture, colour and visual impact in various locations. Brick slip adhesive has been developed to work on a range of walls, substrates, and locations, including:
Internal & external walls: brickwork, concrete, plasterboard, cladding & stone
Domestic homes: bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms
Commercial spaces: offices, meeting rooms, stores
Decorative detailing: feature walls, alcoves & rustic aesthetics
Renovations: updating old or worn walls
What is the Difference Between Grout and Brick Adhesive?
When applying brick slips to a wall or substrate, grout and brick adhesive serve two distinct roles. Brick adhesive is used at the beginning of your project. It is applied to the surface you’re working with, and it bonds the brick slip to the wall or substrate. Traditional grout is applied once the adhesive has thoroughly dried and cured. Grout is applied between the brick slips to help keep the slips in place and create an authentic brick wall effect.
Can I use Tile Adhesive to Install Brick Slips?
Although tile adhesives can be used to install brick slips, they are not always compatible with the surface or substrate you’re working with. For example, porous surface materials such as plasterboards, bricks or timber will benefit from a cement-based adhesive. Whereas a non-porous material, such as glass, plastic or steel, is better suited to an epoxy-based adhesive.

Best Adhesive for Brick Slips
If you’re installing brick slips into your interior or exterior design, there are a few factors to consider when choosing the best brick slip adhesive:
Setting time: How quickly do you need your adhesive to dry and cure? Look for rapid setting times for fast turnarounds. If you have more flexibility, this may not be a major factor.
Surface area: Look at the coverage of your brick adhesive product. Coverage is based on the bed thickness, and some adhesives will stretch farther than others.
Type of slip brick adhesive: Brick slip adhesives are either cement or epoxy-based adhesives. If you’re working with non-porous surfaces, opt for an epoxy-based adhesive. Cement-based adhesives work better for porous surfaces.
Wall material or substrate: If you’re working outside, look for adhesives that are suitable for exterior conditions, such as frost resistance. Also, ensure your product is compatible with the type of wall or substrate you’re working with, such as brick, plaster, cement, or underfloor heating.
How To Apply Brick Slip Adhesive
Regardless of the size or location of your project, using brick adhesive to install brick slips is an easy process. Follow these eight steps to use your brick slip adhesive effectively.
Thoroughly clean the surface you’re working with, and apply a tile primer to create a smooth finish.
Using a tile cutter, carefully cut your brick slips to size, ready to be installed.
Pour your brick adhesive into a mixing bucket and add the recommended amount of water (follow the manufacturer’s instructions).
Use a paddle mixer to combine the adhesive and water into a smooth paste that is able to hold peaks. Ensure there are no lumps or dry patches in the mixture.
For larger projects, continuously stir the mixture as you work to prevent it from clumping or drying out.
Using a notched trowel, apply the adhesive to the surface to the manufacturer’s recommended thickness. At this stage, you can also back butter the brick slip, applying a thin layer of adhesive to the slip before setting it onto the surface.
Press the brick slip into the adhesive with a slight shuffling motion. Swipe away any excess adhesive from the edges.
Use spacers to position your slips evenly and repeat until you’ve achieved your desired effect.
Let the adhesive cure and dry completely before grouting.
By using the right brick slip adhesive and tiling tools for the job, you can create a statement, professional brick wall finish. All with the peace of mind that your brick slips are securely bonded and will perform for years to come.
