How To Tile A Wetroom

  1. Measure the Area

Using a tape measure, measure the size of the wall, floor, or shower unit you’re tiling. Take note of any shower niches, wetroom shower trays, shower shelves, wetroom seats and benches, and tileable sinks

  1. Check Drainage

The purpose of a wetroom is that all water runs down and towards the shower traps and drains. Before tiling, make sure the floor, especially in the shower area, gently slopes towards the drain. If necessary, use a self-levelling compound to relevel the substrate for adequate drainage.

  1. Tank Your Wetroom

Tanking is an essential step to waterproof your wetroom. This will help protect your substrate & tiles, extend their lifespan, and prevent water damage.

  1. Cut Your Tiles

Using a tile cutter or angle grinder, and while wearing protective clothing, carefully cut your tiles to fit your wetroom design.

  1. Install Floor Tiles First

If you’re tiling a wetroom floor, begin here. Start by installing a waterproof tile matting over your substrate or underfloor heating system.

Now it’s time to tile. Begin in the furthest corner from the door. Use a trowel to apply tile adhesive to the substrate and back of the tile, then gently press it into position. Repeat the process using tile spacers to ensure even joints.

Once the tiles are set in place, use a grout float to evenly fill the gaps between the tiles with tile grout. Use a grout sponge to remove any excess, then leave to fully dry and cure.

  1. Install Wall Tiles

We recommend using a self-levelling system to help you install your tiles evenly across your wetroom.

Starting at the lowest point, use a trowel to apply tile adhesive to the substrate and back of the tile, and gently press it into position. Repeat the process using tile spacers to ensure even joints.

Once the tiles are set in place, use a grout float to evenly fill the gaps between the tiles with tile grout. Use a grout sponge to remove any excess, then leave to fully dry and cure.
